I have spent the majority of my career in the health, fitness, and medical industry. I have seen firsthand the red tape take away from patient care. I have sadly known plenty of individuals to lose their life by waiting to get the care they needed or by not being able to afford proper healthcare. This is unacceptable. No life should be lost due to regulations, finances, or negligence. My father had stage 4 renal cancer that traveled throughout his entire body and settled the greatest amount in his brain. Had he not had great insurance, there would not have been a way to afford the over 100 thousand dollars a month bill for his medications (which still cost him over 10k monthly out of pocket). It sickens me to see a society where you must pay to stay alive if you are not well. I myself had a slew of physical ailments and ended up in the hospital numerous times with diagnosis after diagnosis and test after test for 6 years straight, only to finally find out that I have celiac disease. Celiac can mimic other autoimmune disorders, my question was, why was this not one of the first things we tested for? We never once discussed the bloating and weight gain in my gut area, my hormones or anything else. My blood levels fell into the large spectrum of what is considered “normal” and being symptomatic just fell on deaf ears. 6 years of my life I spent suffering, and my health, well, getting progressively worse as I awaited death, watching my oxygen drop day and night into the ’70s. I cannot sit idly in life and let this happen to another person or their family. I will never forget the last visit with my mom when she was in tears looking at me and my swollen body telling me she thought I would die this year and it would be our last visit, I brokenheartedly agreed. Luckily, a month later I found out what was wrong and treated it immediately, I was able to lose 63lbs in 2 months and have the inflammation go away, do you think I was prescribed anything or given a diet or any education about my disease?
